I set up a reading goal this year of 100 books.  Why 100?  No idea.  It was mostly arbitrary, but also I like big, round numbers and it felt right.

I finished my 101st book yesterday, so I feel like I can up the ante next year – maybe 150?  Or is that insane?

Unclear.

There are currently 355 books in my “to-read” list on Goodreads.  And yet, I don’t feel like reading any of them.  This is very strange because I am usually reading at least one book at a time.

The issue I’m having right now, on this last Friday in September, is that there are some good books coming out next week and I don’t want to be in the middle of something when people start talking about them.  Fear of missing out is a big thing in my life and when it comes to books, the struggle is real.

Anyway, here are some books I’m very impatiently waiting for this fall:

Today will be Different by Maria Semple – I know nothing about this book except that it is by the same genius who wrote Where’d You Go, Bernadette, which is literally one of my favorite books of all time, that I recommend to everyone I know and then assess people’s character based on their reaction.  It’s not always fun to be my friend.

The Last Days of Night by Graham Moore – a historical novel about the race to invent the light bulb.  Sounds awesome…Tesla! Edison!  My nerd heart is exploding in anticipation.

The Trespasser by Tana French – I love Tana French and her mystery series set in Dublin.  I tried to pace myself and not devour these immediately when I discovered them early last year, but I have the impulse control of a Dothraki, so no dice.  Bring it on, Tana.

Talking as Fast as I Can by Lauren Graham – I not so secretly adore The Gilmore Girls.  It is my go-to comfort series, and I hate to brag but I recently scored 100% on a Buzzfeed quiz about it.  I know, you’re sad to not be me.

My Own Words by Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg – an edited collection of Notorious RBG’s writings from her amazing career on the Supreme Court and more importantly, as my personal heroine… I love her.

Here I Am by Jonathan Safran Foer – I sometimes love (Everything is Illuminated) and sometimes hate (Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close) but always respect Foer.  We will give it a whirl.
